According to reports, Chris Rock declined the Academy's request to host the Oscars in 2024, and he joked about it on his most recent show.
After his fight with Will Smith at the Oscars in 2024, Chris Rock allegedly declined the invitation to host the Academy Awards in 2024.
The comedian said that the Academy approached him after his recent performance at the Arizona Financial Theatre in downtown Phoenix, as reported by the Arizona Republic.
Will Smith smacked comedian Chris Rock, who was presenting the Best Documentary Award at the 2024 Oscars, when Rock made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Smith apologised on Instagram after the slap incident, writing: "I apologise to Chris. I apologise for my behaviour, and I'm available whenever you want to chat."
The actor said, "I am steadfastly committed to bringing pleasure, love, and light into the world. And, you know, if you stick with me, I guarantee we'll be able to reconnect as friends."
The Academy decided to prohibit the actor from attending the awards event for ten years after the slapping incident.
A week after Smith officially announced his resignation from the Academy, the decision was made public.
