Jessica and Nelly, Sebastian’s elder sisters, are LPGA golf pros. Korda began his junior ice hockey career at three but switched to tennis at nine after accompanying his father to the 2009 US Open. He won a golf competition in Prague at the age of 11, in which his sister Nelly also played.

At the New York Open, Korda made his ATP main tournament debut. In the first round, he lost in three sets against Frances Tiafoe as a wild card entry.

Korda created his Masters 1000 debut as a qualifier in the pre-US Open Western & Southern Open. Korda made his Grand Slam debut at the US Open as a wildcard, losing to Denis Shapovalov. 

Korda went to the fourth round of the French Open as a qualifier, defeating Andreas Seppi, John Isner, and fellow qualifier Pedro Martnez. He was defeated by reigning (and eventual) winner Rafael Nadal in straight sets. 

At the Delray Beach Open, Korda reached his first ATP final. He was defeated in straight sets 3–6, 3–6 by Hubert Hurkacz.

Korda continued his upward trajectory in the Miami Masters, reaching his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal. He defeated 10th seed Fabio Fognini in three sets, 17th seed Aslan Karatsev in straight sets, and Diego Schwartzman for his maiden top ten victories. 

He was eliminated in the quarterfinals by fourth seed Andrey Rublev. On April 12, 2021, he also attained a career-high rating of ATP World No. 62.

Korda won his maiden ATP Tour singles championship in May at the Emilia-Romagna Open, an ATP 250 event that began in 2021 due to the French Open’s one-week postponement. 

In the final, he defeated Marco Cecchinato and did not lose a set. He further became the first American male tennis player since Sam Querrey in 2010 to win on European clay. 

On May 31, 2021, due to this great run, he climbed to a new career-high of No. 50.

In June, Korda won his second top 10 matches against 6th seed Roberto Bautista Agut at the Halle Open, his first ATP tournament on grass, and defeated Kei Nishikori on route to the quarterfinals he lost to eventual winner Ugo Humbert.

A week later, in his Wimbledon debut, Korda advanced to the fourth round for the first time in his career, upsetting in-form player and 15th seed Alex de Minaur, qualifier Antoine Hoang, and 22nd seed Dan Evans.

He did, however, lose in the fourth round against 25th seed Karen Khachanov in five close sets, with the final set ending 10–8 after thirteen service breaks. Despite the setback, he moved up to No. 46 on July 12, 2021, a new career-high.

Korda upset 13th seed Aslan Karatsev and former world No. 3 Marin ili in the Rolex Paris Masters. The victory against Karatsev ended the Russian’s season-ending ATP Finals bid. 

He won his opening match at the Australian Open, upsetting 12th seed Cameron Norrie.
